Isn't 16bit color overkill for the console? I would expect at least some
performance loss comparing to 8bit (0x305), especially on non-accelerated
graphic cards or old hardware (like my 64MB RAM laptop).
I, for one, never run anything extensivelly graphic on the console (svgalib,
mplayer), so if it gives me ANSI colors, I'm satisfied. YMMV
