CJ,
I just went through this on my Dell 1501. I did not use the GUI, all
from a terminal commandline, very easy.

ndiswrapper is a program that provides the environment to run a Windows
driver on a Linux system. After installing ndiswrapper, you need to use
it to install the Windows driver. Then, your system will see your
wireless device.

Follow the instructions at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper?highlight=%28ndiswrapper%29
There is a lot of information on this page. Read it carefully.

Your wired connection should be working. Use it to download any
packages you need.
It sounds like all you need is your driver installation files from the
CD that came with your computer.
Start a terminal and run the following command to see what Linux sees
for your wireless hardware.
  lspci | grep -i wireless
Please post back what kind of computer and wireless hardware you have
and if you get it working.

HTH,
Alex
