LogitechV20 USB Speakers

Okay well it seems that just as soon as i resolve one issue with Ubuntu 
another pops up.

Now i am having trouble with my logitech v20 usb speakers. They were 
working fine until now. When they re plugged in sometimes in the sound 
preferences it will say they are not connected. Then i have to unplug 
and plug them back in a few times then it will show they are connected. 
But even then i get no sound out of them. The sound always comesout of 
the built in speakers and in the volume control icon it says they are 
headphones, no matter what i set the prefs to. But now at least the 
buttons on the top work...ha...does ANYONEe know how tofix this?

it looks like i am getting sound through the usb speakers from pidgin 
alerts. i did recently change from totem gstream to totem xine for the 
dvd support...would that have any effect?
