If your devices use the Atheros chipset, (many do) you need to look at
http://www.madwifi.org. They have extensive documentation for all Linux,
including Ubuntu. Some while ago I thought I saw a disclaimer on that
site stating that "We do not plan support for USB devices at this time."
The site has been redesigned since then, so you may have to search
around. Give it a look.
