Why does OpenOffice.org suck worse than MS Office?

I _think_ the OP is asking:
How do I make Open Office Impress play a music file when a slide is displayed.
(though I may be wrong).

The rest appear to be a rant about open office "sucking".
OP should be aware that Ubuntu don't make huge changes to things like
OpenOffice, you should probably speak with someone from the OO.o team
if you have suggestions for them or file a bug on their tracker.
They have a mailing list (check at http://www.openoffice.org )

My copy of OpenOffice doesn't appear to even have the options for
inserting audio, even though the help file says it should. Maybe I
damaged my install or something.

In answer to the question Open Office has the ability to play a sound
when a slide is shown (as part of the transition). Could that be used?
It seems to only do weird formats though but there should be a way of
converting the audio somehow (ffmpeg).

In future can you state the version of Ubuntu your running (e.g.
Ubuntu 6.06 LTS)
As there are multiple supported versions it's hard to be certain which
version someone is using, thanks.
