I stumbled on it two days ago.  I'm doing the same thing as you.
Xubuntu is supposed to be even lighter than Ubuntu and Kubuntu..so i'm
downloading the Alt.Xubuntu.  Be warned...I'm having problems get the
check sums to match, which means a corrupt download .iso file...
Let me know how you make out.
