Running from CD and Not installing

Haven't test it in Feisty or Gutsy, but I remember in the past, trying
an Ubuntu Live CD, and much to my surprise I could update it, and also
install a few programs from Synaptic just like I would do on an
installed system. I was quite surprised I must admit ! ;-)
I believe it was possible because the live CD detected all the swap
partitions on local hard drives, and used them as storage area.

I think there is something called "persistent Live CD" or something,
somewhere in the wiki, that shows how to keep your settings on some
USB storage device (flash card, hard drive, pen drive, whatever...),
which are then read again next time you boot the live CD. Linux is just
so flexible, never ceases to amaze me... everything seems possible, only
limit is your imagination :-)
