VMware Server : recently stopped working on Feisty

I tried re-installing VMware server via Synaptic, and when I clicked
to see the terminal output, it showed some problems:

Starting VMware services
   Virtual machine monitor:  FAILED
   Virtual Ethernet:         FAILED
Module vmnet is not loaded. Please verify that it is loaded before
running this script.

invoke-rc.d: initscript vmware-server, action "start" failed

I guess the latest Feisty updates broke something that keeps the VMware
services from starting :o(

I will report a bug on Launchpad, after all it's an Ubuntu/Canonical
supplied package, an important one at that, so hopefully they will be
willing to fix it promptly... crossing fingers...

As a temporary workaround, I downloaded the latest VMware server
directly from the VMware website, but alas, the configure script fails
too ! :-/ Not looking good :-/
