FireFox driving me NUTS !!!

I've had to remove and reinstall Firefox because I fowled the
installation, although nothing like the problems you are having. I
just used synaptic to remove it and then reinstalled it after a
reboot. That shouldn't be a problem at all, although I don't know if
it will fix your problem.
