I installed ubuntu under MicrosoftVirtualPC and had problems with resolution. What finally worked was to install Ubuntu 6.06 in safe mode. That seems to have installed with a much higher resolution. Once you do that it loaded normally with the higher resolution (one that matches your monitor). I tried installing Ubuntu 7.04 in safe mode but it would not work.
Hope that helps you.

I installed the server version because i don't want to run X everytime I want to
use linux command line tool.
Anyway, I am finding the resolution on the virtual console i log into too low.
Is there anyway to increase the resolution of a virtual console under vmware?
I tried including the vga=792 in grub but on boot i get an error
stating unspupported
resolution or something like that. Is there a special way to change
the resolution on a virtual console when running under vmware?
I was also curious to know if there is any reason to install
vmware-tools in a non-X environtment? Would i get any benifits by
installing it?
TIA,
Tomoki
