Default SMB.CONF?, Ubuntuguide Confusion?

Did you use Synaptic's "remove completely" option? That should remove
config files as well.

Take a deep breath, Leonard. It will all work eventually :-)

It's actually quite unusual for anyone to have the level of difficulty
you have been having - for most people samba in Ubuntu "just works". I
hope we figure out what got in your way...
