Blank screen after log in

Ubuntu 7.04 Nvidia Geforce 7600

I installed the restricted driver for Nvidia and then uninstalled it. Now, after log on, I get a blank screen. ctl-alt-bkspace will stop x.

I tried: 
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
and
nvidia-glx-config enable
and
checked to see if nv instead of nvidia was used in xorg.conf and it was.
All of this was found in the forums. It helped people with a similar problem but my Ubuntu still gives the blank screen.

Can anyone help me fix this?
