Following up:
The printer is a HP DeskJet500 called dj500

I have a printcap file in
/var/run/cups/printcap
put there by someone (perhaps KDE)
and this location is specified in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf.

# This file was automatically generated by cupsd(8) from the
# /etc/cups/printers.conf file. All changes to this file
# will be lost.
dj500|HP DeskJet 500:rm=kinda:rp=dj500:

Does this file look complete and correct?

Temporarily I soft linked the file to /etc/printcap
but I think I'll change the location permanently to /etc/.

Thank you very much for your interest and prompt help.

Larry
