question from brand newbie re booting from Ubuntu 7.04 CD

Hello.  I just burned my Ubuntu 7.04 CD yesterday and booted from it to
begin to check out Ubuntu.  Here's my question:  some things were not
working, for example, my Firefox browser appeared not to be able to find
my internet connection.  Are there some facilities that do not work when
I boot from my Ubuntu 7.04 CD (like my internet connectivity, and maybe
other things as well, like printers), but which may work just fine
when/if I install Ubuntu on my harddrive?  Or does the failure of these
facilities to work when I boot from the CD indicate that there are
problems with these facilities working in Ubuntu and which therefore are
likely to be problems when/if I install Ubuntu 7.04 on my harddrive?
