It isn't a Toshiba Gary; it's a random PC assembled from parts. Thanks
for the offer though.

After trying for about 6 hours to get the damn thing to boot, including
chasing bugs 38688 and 116996 up and down and around and around, we
*moved the cable to a different SATA slot*. And it worked.

There must still be a bug somewhere... the SuSE disk could see it just
fine in the original slot. But I don't feel like bug chasing tonight.
