sound card is not working

i am with feisty fawn on a amd 64 with asus chipset, alsa is not
configuring soundcard properly and a constant
sound is comming continously throug speaker
and once i set any configuration all the sound stops working :-(

i dont have a hi speed connection how can i  update..
