Wrongly - that might be the basis of some of your issues.

The server provides files - the client uses them.

So, when you look at your WinXP files from your Ubuntu box, the Ubuntu
box is a client, and Windows is the server. If you want to do that
in reverse as well, then Ubuntu will be the server and Windows the
client.
Here's the last piece - there's no reason they can't both be clients
and servers at the same time.

But how; remember I'm a network idiod same for samba?

Thanks a bunch for this clarification; something less for me to worry about. But, I'm still wondering why there is a configuration setup item for "Client of MS Networking" for server, client and tcp/ip. Do I need to setup each separately and individuall, one at a time? I probably less about WXP setup than I do for Ubuntu.

If you want to see your Ubuntu box from Windows, set up samba-server
on the Ubuntu box.

I've done this several times always as a server. I must be missing something else.

Don't worry about your Windows box - from what you are saying it's
fine - leave it alone.

If you can answer the above question about having to or not setup the windows client as server, client or tcp/ip then I will do accordingly. I need the clarification so I quit wasting time on things I shouldn't. Thanks for any further clarification.
