Are you using a live cd or the software update or did you order a cd off of the ubuntu webpage? If you are using a live cd or if you burned a disc of the internet I would try to burn the disc again. If you ordered a disc online you should try to contact Ubuntu. Now if you are using the software update, well just don't! I did it but it takes all day, half of the time it doesn't work right and........ IT JUST SUCKS!!!  if you were stupid enough to use the software update and it didn't work then just order a cd. You can go to ubuntu.com/getubuntu 
once you get there click on get free cd's you can get ubuntu, eduubuntu, Kubuntu, and Xubuntu.
