Haven't a clue if this will work and it's a WAG, but perhaps you can
have a look at my post in the "boot splash screen" thread. You can set
the framebuffer mode in grub:
sudo hwinfo --framebuffer | grep 'Mode '
Then set vga= on the kernel line.
BTW: first I've heard of KVM... looks to be an interesting project :-)
