Problem installing Ubuntu Dapper on Dell PowerEdge 640 with RAID

Guys,
I am thrilled with Ubuntu; it is great. I need to install Ubuntu Dapper on 
Dell PowerEdge 640 with RAID. I have rehearsed it several times on my 
personal computer and in VMWare. No problems.
When I try to install it in the target server, which is a Dell PowerEdge 640 
with RAID, I never get the Ubuntu Server install to detect the hard-drives. 
I have tried all combinations of Software and/or Hardware controlled RAID 
with no luck. Dell states that it supports Suse and Redhat but there is no 
mention of Ubuntu, even thought they ship Ubuntu with other pc 
configurations.
Any ideas on how to proceed?
1) Is there a way I can re-use the Suse drivers to get Ubuntu to see the 
hard drives.
2) I am about to try Ubuntu 7.04; if that succeeds, is there any chance I 
can then downgrade to Dapper?
Any help is appreciated?
