kmail lossing some emails...

it would appear, when I copy over the folder kmail, to a backup drive,
and re-install kubuntu, that not all my email are there, say missing 
about 3 months worth, very odd.. 

Why not all the email, not just the last 3 months or so?
all I did was a drag and drop of the kmail folder,
then replace it the new kmail folder with the backup..
all seem fine, expect missing some emails..

Anyone?
