Hi Silas
I haven't downloaded it lately - and I don't know why it says it's an
HFS volume????

I'd suggest you download it using good 'ole wget or curl
(IIRC wget I added to OSX, curl is OEM, so...)

curl -C - -L -O ftp://URLofISO

or burn it to a CDRW and see if it passes it's own disc check.
