exim4 dependency problems

Greetings all,

Using Feisty 7.04, and having ignored this error for some time now, I am
trying to chase down what has gone wrong. After migrating to the new distro,
exim4 no longer seemed to work: when adding on tripwire and rkhunter, and
mutt, these dependency problems soon cropped up: (long list moved to bottom
of email)

The initial problem seems to be this:

Exim configuration error in line 164 of
/var/lib/exim4/config.autogenerated.tmp:
  main option "acl_whitelist_local_deny" unknown

Now the /etc/exim4/conf.d/acl contains all the relevant files. I cannot
uninstall and re-install - neither with synaptic nor apt-get - the same
error messages appear. /var/log/exim4 logs show me no information. It seems
that the exim4-base package is half installed, but I have been unable to do
anything to remedy this. Does anyone have an idea how to fix the issue?
