Most of your user setting are on your home, so by saving it, and then
restoring all your user setting will be the same.
Other stuff like root settings, or crons, or even extra applications
will still be lost.
but you can run a:
#dpkg -l > ~Desktop/progr.txt
and have all the installed programs, so you can see it latter.
