Firefox locking with YouTube

I posted about this very issue last week. It is a problem for me as well...
Someone told me to have a look at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/104470
which explains the problem.
the upshot is that it's a fairly nasty bug that's been fixed in the
newest kernels.
the workaround for now is to open a browser, run a video, pause it,
hide it away and never close the window. Apparently any new browsers
will not hang/crash as long as the background one is still running.
