I've been having no luck at all getting the Dapper version drivers to
work with static IP, which is what prompted me to look into this in the
first place.

This would be the reasonable way to go, except that I believe I would
need to recompile the kernel in order to get the new .ko to run with it,
resulting in my having a non-static Dapper.  Which would be a decision
I'd have to chew on for a minute.

I should always preface these messages with the version of Ubuntu I'm
running, which is Dapper LTS.  If it were a bit more stable, I would
probably move my desktop and laptop to Edgy, but I need them both for
work and school, meaning that, at this point, stability is key.
