shared folder

1. where? I was thinking either /home (/home/data) or /usr/local/share
(/usr/local/share/data)but I also toyed with the idea of creating a /data
folder at the root level.

I have a similar shared folder. I have it under the /home/trevor/ folder as
"shared", I am a simple boy. I can play all my movies and cd's from any of
my other machines. I do use the same logon name on each machine.
