VLC/DVD-Rip-O-Matic problems after upgrading to Edgy, Any ideas

Since I have upgraded to Edgy I have had a few problems.

1) When I run VNC I only get the main video display window, not the
main 'controller' window.

2) DVD-Rip-O-Matic no longer works.  When I Click on Start button at
end nothing happens.
