two profiles, how do I disable flash 9 in one of the profiles

  There is no reason why you can't symlink the plugins you do want from 
the /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins directory to the ~/firefox/plugins directory 
making sure you don't symlink the flash one of course. Have you tried the 
flashblock extension btw ?
