Perhaps you mean that Gnucash is a bit "heavy" for a home/family budget?

In OOo, check out some of the budget templates & see if perhaps you can
find one that will suit your requirements. You may find one that almost
does, personalise it & add your own macros etc. Then fine tune it &
submit to OOo so others can use it as well :-)
