Using the GUI, Synaptic Package Manager (System -> Preferences -> Synaptic
Package Manager ), you can say File->Save Markings, and then give the path
to save the file. Be sure to check the box "Save full state, not only
changes". Save this file outside the box to fromate
After you format and re-install, do the above again, except, instead of
Saving , click on File->Read Markings and then browse to the path containing
the file saved above.
Clikc "Apply"
