Skype cannot hear voice

I had this problem with skype and for me i had to goto alsamixer and 
there was an option called V_REFOUT on my card that when at 0V meant my 
mic didn't work changed this to 2.25v or 3.7v my other possible values 
and all was well so don't know if you have a similar option that you 
have missed
