Skype cannot hear voice

Hello,

I installed ubuntu 7.10 couple of days back and also installed skype.
However though I can hear the voice of my friends they cannot hear me. Also
in the "echo" test call service, skype cannot hear my voice.

I referred back to an earlier query on this topic and installed
AlsaMixerGUI. Strangely ExtMic seems to be disabled as I cannot make any
changes there.

Please do let me know if I am going wrong anywhere,
