Because of the very long boot time, I always start doing something else
while the system is booting. But this morning I actually timed the boot
sequence and it takes approximately 1 min for booting and 1 min for the
gnome desktop. So it is already much better than it used to be.
I also changed the /etc/hosts like you said, but it doesn't seem to make
much difference.
