How do we get out / rid of initramfs ???

Sounds to me that you need to step back and try to do a Clean/Fresh install of 
7.10.

As you mentioned, something may have been leftover from a previous linux.

Since I have never seen an initramfs prompt, and do not know what it wants 
from you, I can't be of more help.  Sorry.
