Does anyone know of a good mini pci wifi card natively supported in Linux?

I have an Atheros 802.11b/g mini pci card in my T23 which works in
restricted mode on Gutsy but I am having range problems.  In windows, I
could connect to my admittedly weak library router from behind two walls
and about 60 feet or so, but in linux at that same distance I can't even
pick up the the SSID.  I know it's because of the driver because nothing
else has changed.  I figure getting a fully supported open source piece
of hardware will fix this because the driver can then "drive" more power
to the card, or whatever really happens at the driver level to make the
card use more power for rx/tx'ing.

I'm not looking for a card that is 'reported' to work in Linux, but one
designed to run in the *nix environment, or where the manufacturer has
released code open source for such an application.
