Run ....

#> hal-device-manager

When gtk window comes up

[on left tab]
Select your device (in this case the NICs)
Under your device, select "Networking Interface"

[On right tab]
Select "advance tab"
Change the "networking interface" string ...from eth0 to eth"any number"

How it helps
George

Subject: Static network interface names?

Is it possible to make NIC's have static device names in Ubuntu?

Sometimes when I move a disk between machines, I get new interface name,
(eth2 eth3 etc) created and this causes me problems.
