sun jre with firefox

I know this will sound a bit silly, but I can't seem to access apps
(like web-ex) on mu kubuntu 7.04 box.  I have sun java 6 packages
installed, and have manually started them, but I don't think this is
what these apps want.  It seems to be more of a runtime engine within
the browser (or one that the browser can use)...

Can anyone point me to how to set this up? (I have a web-ex that I just
got an invite to, and can't get in it!)...
