On the Ubuntu LiveCD in the directory casper, there's a file called
filesystem.manifest-desktop. As its name indicates, this file is a
manifest of all of the packages in a default Ubuntu desktop
installation. You can use this file to compare with the output of a
dpkg-query search on currently installed files to see what's been added
and deleted.
