Btw, ferm is being depended on by nothing at all, and conflicts with
shorewall and shorewall-lite. Well, it's Gutsy in my case, but I'd think
it's the same in Feisty:

apt-cache rdepends ferm

Reverse Depends:
  shorewall
  shorewall-lite


aptitude show shorewall

Conflicts: ipmasq, knetfilter, firewall-easy, filtergen, uif,

As I see it, ferm certainly cannot have been pulled in by a dependency
during the upgrade, the reason mus lie somewhere else.
