ddrescue and multiple files

I am trying to recover my data using ddrescue.  The volume in question was
around 975GB.  Since I didn't have enough space I went out and got a 1TB Usb
drive.  Last night it ran out of space on the 1TB drive!

The filesystem size (according to the superblock) is 261015552 blocks
The physical size of the device is 240072199

Can I split the ddrescue log file over multiple drives?  What other options
do I have?  I would have thought 1TB would have been enough size.
