Not sure. I am on Feisty, and I have all codecs installed, as per
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats
I have just downloaded a youtube video, using the VideoDownloader
extension. I can play the video without any problems with gmplayer,
totem-gstreamer, xine, and vlc.

I am not sure what is wrong on your side. Maybe check the codec
installation?
