Installing more recent Ghostscript?

I'm new to Ubuntu, so this may be a newbie error... I have a need for
Ghostscript that more recent that the current gs-gpl version of 8.50
that I get from apt-cache showpkg gs-gpl. Current gs-gpl should be 8.54,
as it is for other distributions.

Is there a repository that allow me to get the latest one? I really
don't want to have to install from source... this would be for multiple
machines, it'd be a real PITA if I have to do that.

I'm running Ubuntu 6.10 server. Thanks!
