[feisty] Avahi appears not to do anything ?

Two newish up to date installs of Feisty 7.04 Beta ( laptop and desktop )

Despite the fact that "pgrep avahi" shows several processes, and
that /etc/default/avahi-daemon is set to turn avahi on, I can't see that
it is doing anything...

My understanding was/is that for example Rhythmbox is capable of letting
users on the network know about "shared" music, yet I cannot find any
option to turn this on in Rhythmbox ( there is no "Sharing" tab in my
preferences in Rhythmbox)

Installing and activating the "service-discovery-applet" package results
in a nice little panel applet that claims complete ignorance of any
Avahi/ZeroConf services ...

I am curious as to whether others have Avahi working, and what I am
missing - possibly nothing happens if my iptables rules are restricting it?

Does anyone actually have the "sharing" option in Rhythmbox? Neither my
iBook running Feisty, nor my common-or-garden Celeron/ Asus i686 desktop
have anything ...

Puzzled ...

Peter
