I don't want to turn this into windows-users but...

"cmd" gets you to a command line, but you can't delete any files that are
currently in use. In Windows 9x you could boot to a command line, without
loading most of the rest of Windows (think runlevel 1), and delete anything
you liked....

... which come to think of it is probably why they got rid of it in XP!
