Oh, thanks, I will give nscd a try. Otherwise I'm thinking about
switching the user desktop from gnome to xfce. Do you have any
experiences if xfce harmonizes better with ldap/nfs?

Another question: Since I have these troubles, would it be better to
export nfs asynchronously?
