strange cursor behavior in gnome terminal

Hello,

I just switched to gnome. I like Konsole but I think for performance reasons
it is better to use the gnome pendent, isn't it?

The cursor in gnome terminal odes not behave well. After or maybe before
every key it jumps to the beginning of the line and then back again. This
is irritating makes it slow. What's wrong there? How can I correct it?
