Ubuntu (Dapper), IBM T30 and "unauthorized network card"

I spoke too soon about my miniPCI card being dead.

I don't know what brought it back, but it appears to be OK. About the
only thing that happened was another ten reboots :-)

Time will tell...

I remain convinced that the Dapper install, presumably hardware probes,
did the original dirty deed. I'm just glad there was a way out.
