no no no. it can be done with the live CD, I just always get the syntax
wrong so I better now help you.
You need to get to a terminal using the recovery option and then type
grub. Once in grub it needs to know the (new) root to use for it's
files, or the old root if the files are still there, with something
like:
root (hd0,1) <-- just an example
and then to setup to tell it where to install itself
setup (hd0,0) <-- just an example
anyway, something like that, try reading the manual.
$ man grub
