handling files

When I need to copy a file from one folder to another, for example, I
drag that file from one folder to the other. Suppose I want to copy 50
files how can I avoid dragging them one by one. I know I can mark them
by holding down the Ctrl key but this is laborious. In windows I could
just draw a box around the files and then copy them as a block. Is there
something similar in Ubuntu?
